School Ministry: The Brainstorm School and St. Juliet Academy
Brainstorm school and St. Juliet Academy are primary schools based in Kibera. They have classes from Kindergarten to Class 8. Due to the recent Covid pandemic and back to school announcement by the government, they are now teaching only Grade 4 pupils and Class 8 pupils.
Need: According to the government of Kenya, there are some schools and homes that were built along the railway line in Kibera, which is Kenya railway’s land. The government is in the process of reclaiming this land. The two schools were amongst the schools and homes demolished by the government together with their belongings in order to reclaim the land. The schools had to seek refuge in another area of Kibera where they have been renting and relying on well-wishers to get by. They however managed to salvage some of their desks and chairs which they have been using for their pupils.
Their pupils do not pay the institutions for food. They have therefore been relying on donors and well- wishers for the same. Tunedem Foundation saw it fit to visit with Brainstorm School on 19 th October and St. Juliet Academy on 22nd October 2020 to provide foodstuff to the pupils.
The team not only bought the foodstuff but they also went a mile to cook and wash utensils for them. They also preached, encouraged them in the Lord, and prayed with and for them. We also left enough foodstuff to feed the pupils for at least two days. Over 200 pupils were fed through this ministry.
Girls’ Ministry in Kibera
On October 16th , Africa Girl Foundation partnered with Tunedem Foundation to donate sanitary towels to 25 girls in Kibera slum. The Foundation also gave them some advice on how to carry themselves as young girls growing into womanhood and how to keep themselves pure. We also shared the love of God with them and prayed with them.
Share the Love Food Basket
Still on 19th of October, the Foundation preached and prayed for over 60 families over and above giving them foodstuff. These families came from different parts of Kibera.
The need is still very big. As long as the pandemic is here with us, many are still jobless and homeless. Many still sleep without food and proper clothes and adequate shelter. Through the efforts of our donors and partners, we are able to reach the most vulnerable wherever they are especially in the heart of the slums of Kibera.
